Weiner Will Resign Today At 2:00 p.m. But Hey, Don’t Resign! Just Switch Parties.

If You  Can Dodge A Vitter, You Can Dodge A Weiner.  This is getting old, and I’ve written often of this brouhaha.  But the word out today just in from CNN’s Dana Bash that Congressman Anthony Weiner will resign today, in NYC, at 2:00 pm.  According to her sources, the congressman phoned Rep. Steve Israel last night to deliver the news, and later met with both Israel and Nancy Pelosi to confirm it, displaying deep emotion and remorse about “distracting” his own party.  But, there’s a deeper story here, one of cowardice and disloyalty . . . Please read on . . .

He apparently had delayed his decision until his wife returned home from Europe.  Huma Abedin, who is among Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s closest aides, arrived home yesterday, and their discussion likely has, partly, at least, led to his resignation later today. In fact, he may have decided to quit against Abedin’s advice who is believed to oppose resignation. Also, Mr. Weiner’s constituents still support him rather strongly, according to polls and CNN this morning.

As I’ve written before here and here, the cowardice of the Democratic party in this affair shocks me, even though Weiner’s offense is a sordid one. He’s deserving of at least the same punishment doled out to (then) Representative David “Ho’ Monger” Vitter: election to the U.S. Senate.  Yes, that’s exactly what happened. In light of this, Democratic party moral flaccidity now, about Mr. Weiner, is approaching death by paralysis. . .

Distracting Congress Is Apparently Very Easy.  Also, the hue and cry, and the wailing at the wall about how Weinergate is a “distraction” to the budget talks, the debt limit debate, and on and on is ridiculous. In fact, it’s a downright lie. Congress is nearly always distracted for a variety of reasons. It was recently distracted by Ex Senator John Ensign and, earlier, distracted by (then) Rep. David Vitter. Why is Congress not more “distracted” by the war in Afghanistan, the crises in Libya, the European debt pit, the newly declining economy, etc., etc.?

Right now, that utterly co-opted Wolf Blitzer is on CNN condemning Weiner and going on and on about the “distraction” thing too. The normally stable John King is now on, and doing same – it’s coming fast and furious – with more distraction news, wrapped around marriage advice – “He needs to work on his marriage.”

Well, it’s all absurd. The entire agenda of Congress subverted by a minor non-criminal sexual adventure indulged in by congressfolks and constituents alike?  If that’s true, then our Congress is very easily distracted and needs Ritalin in its water supply. But, let’s be real, like Napoleon was, “In politics, absurdity is not a handicap.” Here’s proof.

The Solution Is Simple. Change Parties.  Yes, it’s really easy. Join the party that has a higher toleration of sexual peccadilloes. The party that allows you to whore around and doesn’t do more than “tsk tsk.” The party of utter hypocrisy, to be sure, but on the other side, the party that above all else is loyal to a fault. The party that simply turns away questions that attack its hypocritical flapdoodle. Can you guess which party this is?  See below. It’s how I picture Weiner’s reprise.
