Romney Secret Fundraising Video: Hear His “Concession Speech”

“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That, that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax. . . .

[M]y job is is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.”

Mitt Romney, comments during a private fundraiser after he’d clinched the 2012 nomination,
transcript released today by Mother Jones
After all the vagueness, and all the shell games, the obvious lies, the truth used to support lies, and the underlying cynicism invigorating it all, we now can read and see and hear Mitt Romney explain in the clearest terms his unifying principle. Thank you, Mitt Romney, for at last making that perfectly clear. It’s really all we have, and it’s enough.

Obviously, there are so many things wrong – infuriating – about Romney’s words that my head is spinning. If those words aren’t the equivalent of a concession speech, nothing is. If Romney’s elected, what deathly virus inhabits our voting public?

More soon, for now, here’s Bertrand Russell:

Advocates of capitalism are very apt to appeal to the sacred principles
of liberty, which are embodied in one maxim:
The fortunate must not be restrained in the exercise
of tyranny over the unfortunate.
Bertrand Russell
