Week Of March 26 Featured Post —Tea Party Express Does Not Answer Questions About Donations From Texas D Jacques Roy, Alleged Medicare Fraud Kingpin
I’ve written before about what is arguably one of the bigger scandals ongoing, and little reported on. I’ve labeled it MediCaper, Texas Doctor Jacques Roy’s alleged cento-million dollar Medicare/Medicaid fraud for which he was arrested on February 28, 2012. (For a bit of background, go here, here here, and here. I’ve also written about Dr. Roy’s Tea Party connection here.)
A small part of this saga involves 1,150 dollars Doctor Roy contributed in five installments from August 31, 2009 to January 1, 2010 to Our Country Deserves Better-PAC (OCDB), the Tea Party Express (TPX) political action committee. Realistically, this is a small amount, although many of us would be hard-pressed to make a contribution that large. Certainly, the good doctor had the right to contribute to any cause, even a manifestly delusional one. I’m not interested in whether Roy was a member of TPX. Indeed, this is one area within the MediCaper web that is not about him.
It’s about the Tea Party Express. It doesn’t need to be. Over the last three weeks, I’ve emailed TPX’s press office three times and TPX founder Amy Kremer two times asking what I thought would be a simple question, without assuming Dr. Roy’s guilt:
If Dr. Roy is found guilty of defrauding the Medicare and/or Medicaid programs, will the TPE’s PAC return the funds ($1,150) to Doctor Roy or to the federal government?
I thought the question would have come up before and that they’d had time to cobble together an answer, even an ambiguous one. Nonetheless, they haven’t, or they don’t want to share it (with me and you anyway). Whatever the reasons, I’d still like to know their position on Dr. Roy’s contributions, this apparent outlier in their donation base. Also, Perhaps you do too.
So, below are the emails I’ve sent a few times now. If you’d like to contact them perhaps that would light a fore under them to at least state their position. Below, with a little detective work, you’ll find the email addresses.
1. Re: Question re: Doctor Jacques Roy, indited Medicare fraudster contributions to OCDB Save AllThis is the third time in the last month, I’ve asked for the information set out below, will you please respond? I’ve written often about Dr. Roy’s situation, and this is a concern of myself and thousands who have read my reporting. If you will not answer a simple question like this, I can only wonder about your organization’s commitment to honesty, accountability, and openness, although it’s possible I misunderstand your principles.
Do you believe it is acceptable to steal taxpayer’s money, and then contribute it to your PAC?
Tonight, I’ll let my readers know I’ve emailed you again, and include the text of this email.
Thank you.

To: press@teapartyexpress.orgGiven the recent controversy surrounding Dr. Jacques Roy, what is your stance on his contributions to the Teap Party Express PAC, Our Country Deserves Better? If Dr. Roy pleads guilty to any charges, enters an accepted plea bargain, is otherwise convicted, or the court accepts a plea of “no contest,” will the PAC disavow and return the doctor’s $1,150 total contribution to either Dr. Roy or the federal government (after all, if he’s convicted, it’s really taxpayer money)?
Here’s his FEC contribution record (accessed today), all contributions made during the time he is alleged to have been defrauding the federal taxpayer:

2. Re-send: Question about Tea Party Express PAC & Dr. Jacques Roy contributions Save All
Dear Ms Kremer, I wrote ten days ago asking for the information set out below. I’ve been following and reporting on issues related to Dr. Roy’s indictment for massive Medicare/Medicaid fraud. In 2009 and 2010 he contributed a relatively small amount to your Tea Party Express PAC, During that time it is alleged that he was actively engaged in defrauding the taxpayers who support Medicare and Medicaid. I’d be interested in your response to my initial question below, and so would thousands of readers.
I also have contacted the Tea Party Express press office by email three times (including today). No response.
Given the stated goals of your organization, I cannot believe that you would have much difficulty answering my question. Also, I’, not assuming, in any way, that Dr. Roy is guilty. But if he is, and that is how my question is phrased, can you not agree that it would comport with your philosophy to return the money he contributed to OCDB-PAC to either Dr. Roy or the U.S. government, after all, if convicted, that’s where the doctor arguably got the money to contribute?
Tonight, I’ll let my readers know that I’ve written to you and TPE’s press office again, and will publish this email and the TPE press office email address.
Thank you.
