Jon Stewart Nails CNN To Its “Good Or Bad” Fencepost
Michael Matthew Bloomer, October 30, 2013.
Whenever reporting news of left and right politics, CNN news, the dumb-down network, has for many years showcased the false “balance” that equates, for one example, Darwinism with creationism. CNN is not alone, of course, nonetheless it leads the field. As a result of not calling a crazy idea like creationism, well, crazy, CNN and others have damaged not only meaningful political discussion but our language itself by suggesting through continuous repetition that there are but two sides to a controversy, left and right, and the “right” is often far right. This gives the right-wing unearned and undeserved comfort and, most important, a pulpit they do not deserve for their agenda.
But, false balance and language debasement could not get worse at CNN, could they? After all, their inapt balancing act has reached its logical end, right? Wrong. Now, it seems, “good or bad” has in many important issue areas replaced false balance. As if, like South Pole explorers, CNN looks to plant its flag at the coldest, most uninhabitable place in political discussion, they now ask about issues like the possible bombing of Syria, “Good or bad?”
When the only permitted answers are “good” and “bad,” the results are ugly.
