Gingrich Loans RNC Some Unused Ego

On Thursday, CNN reported that Newt Gingrich used the word “ego” in reference to others. “Reacting to recent reports that some members of the RNC are trying to limit [RHC Chairman Michael] Steele’s ability to spend the committee’s money without authorization from other party leaders, Gingrich said RNC members ‘all think they’re precious, and they all think they should be taken care of, and they all think the job of the chairman, first of all, is to make the RNC members happy.'” He also maintained that Steele had “probably not yet learned the art of massaging the egos of RNC members.”

Got Ego? Newt Gingrich is to ego as the Middle East, Russia, Texas, Oklahoma, Venezuela, and, well, all the rest, are to oil. The ultimate source. The Mother lode. The complete magilla. How, one wonders, was there any ego to spare for these RNC members Mr. Gingrich chided? Did he loan them some?

Seriously, this is wonderful on a few levels. First, the continual infighting among Republicans shows no signs of abating. And what I really like here is that the hapless Mr. Steele has been given a boost just as some GOP forces appeared to be making inroads against his claim to leadership, such as their rebranding” effort, an oddly old brand of the has been McCain and irrelevant wingnuts like Cantor, Jindal, Barbour, Kyol, Pence, Boehner, and Romney. What, was Cheney not available? If that’s their new brand, I’m thinking Edsel and the new Coca Cola. “Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.” I say, keep it up, Repubs!

Second, this is the same Newt, who now, for Mr. Steele, acts as the reasonable mediator to defuse the nastiness, but who once said, “I think one of the great problems we have in the Republican Party is that we don’t encourage you to be nasty. We encourage you to be neat, obedient, loyal and faithful and all those Boy Scout words, which would be great around a campfire but are lousy in politics.”

Third, the comedy value of Gingrich – G.I.N.G.R.N.C.H! – accusing others of “ego” renders the term “ludicrous,” well, ludicrous. How do you describe the chutzpah of this melon-headed man? How does one explain the “intellectual” moniker he seem to carry? What has happened to the concept of “intellectuals” if he can be counted by so many as among them? Has the average I.Q. been reduced by, let’s say, conservatively, by 95%?

Ego? Gingrich considers himself, the “most serious, systematic revolutionary of modern times.” This is the same Gingrich who famously shut down the federal government because he was angry that the President (the Clinton) observed the usual protocol of leaving Air Force One via the front door, and did not invite him to do so as well. This is not apocryphal; Gingrich admitted it.

Ego? Just have a look at his tenure as Speaker of the House, where he replaced the seniority system with his own procedure of personal appointments of committee chairpersons, and after yelping about too many committees, he added dozens of his very own. Check out Rackjite.com for more.

Ego? He’s forever expounding on a possible run for the presidency, but only if he deems it necessary, only should the country really really need him, personally. Then, perhaps, he’d put himself out. For example, recently he said he and the present Mrs. Gingrich would “look seriously at whether or not we think it’s necessary to do it. And if we think it’s necessary we’ll probably do it. And if it isn’t necessary we probably won’t do it.”

Ego? Yet, let’s not forget, he’s famously asserted, “I discourage a cult of personality,” and “I’m not a natural leader. I’m too intellectual; I’m too abstract; I think too much.” Here’s a few examples of his “thinking too much”:

“A mere forty years ago, beach volleyball was just beginning. No bureaucrat would have invented it, and that’s what freedom is all about.”

When he was asked: What should we do about the homeless? “Give the park police more ammo.”

“[W]e didn’t rush over, smile, and greet Russian dictators. We understood who they were.” Of course we did, and our leaders did smile just the same. See the Think Progress picture at right for just a few examples. (Click for larger version.) Of course, this may be just an example of Newt’s consistent lying, rather than stupidity. I’m thinking it’s both.

Merci, You Big Fat Amoral Moronic Melonhead! So, as long as Newt’s around there will be no shortage of ego on this planet. He’s got enough to keep most of the world running on just his reserve ego. For that, we truly can thank him, but – at least as far as he’s concerned – never enough.

how amusing is it that Newt Gingrich is supposed to represent the future of the Republican party. Seriously? Is anyone more synonymous with the '90s than this guy? The idea that Newt Gingrich is going to seem really fresh in 2012 is mind-blowing. Even after Obama is President for four years, he'll still seem more "new" than Gingrich.
